A Narrative History of the Montana Heritage Project

Documenting a Sports Legend

Bob Malyevac

Libby High School

Students in the Libby Heritage Class did an extensive biography of local sports legend Eugene “Buck” Nelson, who starred in football, basketball, and track in the early 1940s and was the first person inducted into the Libby Hall of Fame. Through the lense of one manís life, they studied the school and community as it existed at an earlier moment in time, including the history of important buildings and events from that era. This project culminated in a community picnic held on the grounds of the Heritage Museum.
