A Narrative History of the Montana Heritage Project
Literary Magazine, Stories in Place II
Students at Simms High School conducted written and oral research to produce the essays, short stories, and poems in their literary magazine. This year they focused on the years 1925-1935. The first visited the Cascade County Historical Archives, looked at the bound copies of the Great Fall Tribune for the decade, and learned about using primary documents in research. Students then conducted interviews with community members who could tell them first hand about their experiences in the time period they were studying. In addition to listening to othersí stories, students also shared their own. They wrote essays of place, recreating through image and story one place that has special meaning to them. Linda Peavy, poet and nonfiction writer, also spent a week in the school working with students under the Montana Councilís Artist in Residency ProgramTo print a final report for the year-end binder, click here.
