A Narrative History of the Montana Heritage Project

Place Name Origins

Jeff Gruber

Libby High School

Students built upon previous work collecting historic photographs by combining the photographs with brief narratives about the origin of place names in the Libby area. In cases where historic places had no photograph, students tried to photograph the building, or at the least, they would obtain a photo of someone who had worked there or a family member for which the site was named. The collection has been displayed at local festivals and at the opening of the local museum, which will eventually house the collection.
