A Narrative History of the Montana Heritage Project

Research of Local Buildings to Discover Community Values

Renee Rasmussen

Chester High School

Students began by reading selections from The Last Best Place to help them better understand their community. They then conducted more in-depth research at the local museum, courthouse, and library; hosted guest speakers at school and conducted off campus interviews to better understand local buildings. Working in teams, students gathered the information into histories for seven buildings in town. Students presented their research at a community Heritage Fair, which attracted more than five hundred people.
