A Narrative History of the Montana Heritage Project

Stories in Place II, A Video of Four Towns in The Sun River Valley

Dorothea Susag

Simms High School

Simms High School students created a thirty-minute film to dispel the myth that small towns are dying and to share their communities with others. They looked at the character of each town they wanted to portray (Simms, Fort Shaw, Vaughn, and Sun River) and composed a list of places that reflected each community’s spirit. After gathering all their visual clips, they began writing narrations and organizing their materials. With their computer-editing program they put their clips in order, added the selected narrations and soundtracks, and worked in transitions.
