Helena Festival of the Book, October 20-24
There may be a national decline in literary reading, but not in Montana. October 20-24 will see the Helena Festival of the Book, another Montana book festival funded in part by a grant from MCH.

Letters about Literature, December 4 Deadline
Educators and librarians: look for a mailing soon to schools and libraries concerning the 2004-2005 edition of the Library of Congress’ Letters About Literature program. LAL is a national reading and writing promotion program for children and young adults, sponsored by Target Stores. MCH administers the Montana LAL program. Montana students have been national LAL winners or achieved honorable mention in each of the past three years. Information on LAL—including much of interest to teachers—is at the Library of Congress site.
If you have student write about regional literature, I’d be glad to publish some of their letters on this website (assuming they do the posting). I’ll have a “Montana literature” section, which it would be nice to build.
