How do I apply?

If you are a high school teacher, you may apply by submitting this form.

What is the Affiliates Program?

The Montana Heritage Project supports three tiers of professional support. Affiliate Teachers are responsible for conducting local heritage projects for their schools and communities. As openings occur for Demonstration Sites, these are filled by successful Affiliates.

What you will receive from the Montana Heritage Project

  1. $1,000 for equipment, tapes and other materials, books or other teaching resources, travel, refreshments for public events. You will create a budget specifying how you will use this money. You should include funds for your trip to the Youth Heritage Festival in Helena in April.
  2. A packet of teaching ideas and resources
  3. Attendance at a training workshop to be held the last week in June.
  4. A subscription to Heritage Education magazine

What will you provide to your community?

  1. A set of audio tapes of oral history interviews with veterans or people on the home front.
  2. A collection of essays written by students based on those interviews as well as other research.
  3. A culminating event (ranging from a publication party in your classroom to a community-wide Heritage Evening).

What are your responsibilities to the Heritage Project?

  1. A final report, including a narrative history of your project.
  2. Three feature articles written by students based on their research and oral interviews, to be submitted online by May 15. Follow these directions to submit feature articles about veterans. Follow these directions to submit feature articles on other topics.
  3. An itemized list of expenditures detailing how the funds received were spent.

When is the deadline for proposals?

March 1, 2006.
