Optical Allusions

After working as a certified optician for nearly twenty years, Thomas Thackeray decided it was time to change careers and brought his passion for literature and writing to the classroom.  Now at Roundup High School where he has taught English for the past eight years, Thackeray, who holds Associate of Science, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Science degrees, looks forward to the challenge each new class brings.  Acquiring knowledge and having fun are not mutually exclusive concepts in his classroom, even though he concedes that learning can sometimes be difficult.  He fervently believes Aristotle’s notion that “all people by nature desire to know,? and uses that philosophy in an attempt to connect student interests with learning.  Improving student writing is Thackeray’s primary academic objective, and he uses Montana Heritage Project to enrich students’ educational experiences. His previous occupation involved providing people with optical appliances to improve their vision.  According to Thackeray, his job description has changed little:  “I provide my students the tools they need to see the world more clearly, but once their eyes are opened, I don’t tell them what they should see.?
